The purpose of this study was to find out about the Knowledge, Attitudes and Practices of trainers in technical and vocational institutions who use Competence Based Education and Training (CBET) as a methodology for assessment. The Technical, Entrepreneurial Vocational Education and Training Authority (TEVETA) was established in 1999 with a view of reviewing the technical and vocational training which most stakeholders expressed dissatisfaction on. With this mandate, the methodology favoured is CBET. However, after a period of time some irregularities in on how the delivery and assessment were being carried out have been spotted. The study made use of both quantitative and qualitative data obtained from a multiple-choice test, attitude scale questionnaire and interviews. The subjects were 100 trainers from 13 technical institutions. The results of the study indicated that although the trainers had positive attitude towards CBET assessment, they had limited knowledge in this methodology. The trainers have knowledge required in the delivery and assessment of CBET. However the findings have un earthed some areas which trainers have difficulties in understanding them. The problems which trainers face and how they could improve have been suggested. Recommendations and suggestions for future research have been provided.
